Novosibirsk is kind of my special place, I can say I've come to love it. I have a very specific feeling about it. It has a few flaws here and there, but so does every other place in the world. Two days ago, as I was walking to the subway, I saw a hypodermic needle. I was shocked. I didn't know what to think, but I stopped and decided to take a picture of it.

At this point, I should mention that I used to work security in downtown Vegas, where I saw much worse on a regular basis, so this shouldn't have shocked me at all, but it did.

Why did this effect me so? Because I was foolish! Foolish enough to think that this was MY place, free of all the bullshit I wanted to get away from. I was naive to start to believe, even for half a second, that maybe, just maybe, the area I was in was free from it.

I've seen a few pictures and news articles about "крокодил" (Crocodile), a terrible drug that literally makes you rot alive. So, I knew drugs were present in Russia (as well as the rest of the world), but I was very content to have never met it in person the entire time I'd been here.
Maybe I'm overreacting, maybe this whole entry is silly, but for quite a while after I saw it, my mood changed drastically. A wake up call, that brought me back down to earth with enough force to knock me on my butt and make me mope a bit =/
